TOKYO

I've been thinking about how I want to approach posting the pictures from my trip to Tokyo. Posting pictures in a big album never do them enough justice. Each picture has a story to tell and it would only be right to highlight each one.

We timed our visit the Roppongi Hills Sky Deck around sunset so we could catch a view of the incredibly Tokyo cityscape as the sun set and the city lit up in a neon glow. The Sky Deck at Roppongi Hills is one of the few open air observation decks in the city and is situated on the helicopter pad of the building. This is my second time to Tokyo, but this time I had the freedom to explore the city in my own way. This is a city of 13 million people and there are buildings as far as the eye can see in every direction. It was magical to see the transition to night at this vantage point. All the tall buildings have pulsating red aircraft lights on their corners that almost seem to blink in unison. The elevated highways light up with traffic and the trains zip through the city. I've read that Ridley Scott came to Tokyo, looked around Shinjuku, and went home to make Blade Runner.  The enormity of the city made me realize just how small we are in context and how much there is that has yet to be seen. Its a good metaphor for world as a whole. I just sat there into the night looking out at the city and did some thinking about what I wanted out of life now that I've left structured education.
